First edition of Villarosa's main work, which for the first time attempts to write a history of Neapolitan music. The work has long been considered a main source work, as well as by Fétis. Villarosa based it on a study, available as a manuscript, by his teacher G. Sigismondo. The latter worked as a librarian in Naples and referred mainly to his personal acquaintance with many Neapolitan composers. This study was significantly expanded by Villarosa.
