  • First edition. - Tevo (1651-1712) was a Franciscan friar in Venice, theorist and composer. According to Forkel, his "exquisitely good" compendium of music theory deals with the nature of music, its invention and classification, the organs of the voice and the ear, notation, tone, intervals, solmization, mutation, harmony, and counterpoint. The title "musical cloth weaver" - Tevo explains in the introduction - was chosen because he has woven a cloth of musical erudition from the books of the most important authors. He unites Greek, Latin and Italian theorists. - Decorative copper engraved portrait of the author as frontispiece, title page decorated with musical instruments, text richly illustrated with musical examples, 2 copper plates with parts of the neck and ear. - RISM B VCI, 826f. Hirsch I, 575; detailed contents include: Forkel, Allg. lit. p. 415; Fetis VIII, 206; Cat. Bologna I, 260. - Erstausgabe. - RISM B VCI, 826f. Hirsch I, 575; detaillierte Inhaltsangaben enthalten: Forkel, Allg. Lit. S. 415; Fetis VIII, 206; Cat. Bologna I, 260.
