Very representative photograph of the composer, famous music critic and professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. The note quotation TARANTINA is from his SECOND OPERA CORDELIA, premiered in 1885 at the Bolshoi Theater in St. Petersburg. Contemporaries liked the folk color. The opera won 2nd prize in an opera competition (see MGG). With personal dedication to Bernard Ivanovich Wendel.
